After tinkering with ideas for few minutes in a closed room I started combining concepts and mechanics from traditional MMOs alongside the well-known idle game design RuneScape Gold, making something that can be played at leisure, in the car and fit in the daily routine of a gamer."
The author adds: "While the numbers and stats stuff isn't what all players enjoy the most about MMOs however, it's the thing that the majority of fans be drawn to once the exploration has been completed. Since it's usually central to the things that long-term players focus on it makes sense to include this as an essential element of Melvor's game's concept. Additionally, it is compatible with common design elements used in most idle games."
While he took inspiration from other MMOs but the design is the main focus of RuneScape was one he carefully followed, and he built out the world of Melvor Idle, a world that is a parallel one to the more than 20-year-old RPG. "RuneScape was a fundamental reference point for the game since it was such a fundamental games for me" the author explains."
Like many people I began playing RuneScape because the majority of my acquaintances at the time had it. Its being an online-only game is a large part of this. Its low barrier to entry combined with RuneScape's depth of branching and complexity was what kept me playing it for a long time -- which is something I wanted to emulate with Melvor Idle."
With Malcolm being open about his motivations when he was interviewed, word soon got to Jagex that an avid fan was developing a game that was based off its own MMO. One of the staff members flagged it to management Buy OSRS Gold, with director of product management Chris Pfeiffer telling us his team was impressed by "how much was achieved and how closely it aligned closely with RuneScape."
