Original Runelite developer Adam1210 posted his views on Reddit in which he said that the ability to allow Runelite HD to continue would be beneficial for the future updates that are made by Jagex.

"Most of these guidelines attempt to define what the line is between "quality of life] and cheating lies - and I think most players agree that the current guidelines are a good illustration of that. it keeps the integrity of the game.
There isn't any benefit in the least for enhanced graphics that only impact you if you allow it. Therefore, this is an abuse of guidelines. So overall this is really an issue for all involved and I wish Jagex would reconsider."
Some supporters in those who support the Runelite HD project have taken to the town square of Falador the capital city in one of Runescape's largest kingdoms, for an unofficial sit-in similar to the protest World of Warcraft players held in July. Fans can be seen in the linked video posting messages of criticism against Jagex in its decision-making process and hashtags like #Free117.
