Runescape producer Jagex has put an end with Runelite HD, a fan-made HD mod of the well-known software that is open source for Old School Runescape, just when the OSRS gold project was set to launch on Monday. The sudden change has some Runescape users expressing anger over Jagex's decision , and stating that they'll switch to other MMOs.
Runelite HD Developer "117" posted on Reddit Tuesday sharing the message he received from Jagex The message was later confirmed by Jagex in its own blog post. Runelite HD operates as a plugin that will provide an overhaul in the visuals of the core game Runescape as found by 117's Twitter. Moderator 117 stated that they've put in around two thousand hours over the course of two years working on Runelite HD.
"Yesterday we contacted the developers of well-known HD projects, and we asked for them to stop working on their projects, because it is a subject we are directly investigating," Jagex stated. Jagex informed 117 that the company's efforts to develop an HD edition of Old School Runescape was "still very early in the exploratory stages" however "very advanced."
"Naturally this implies the fan-driven projects that attempts to alter the look of Old School RuneScape appears will be not in line with our ideas," Jagex wrote to 117. "We believe it is essential to ensure consistency with regard to how Old School appears and therefore we're trying to be sure that our official changes are the only ones that are available.
I hope the news that Jagex and the Old School team are tackling this endeavor with a seriousness is something that you are excited about even though it might indicate that we have to gently ask you to shut down your own personal project."
117 stated that they had offered Jagex their side of the bargain in the form of removing their project once Jagex had released theirs, as well as giving Jagex "collaborative power" over Runelite HD's visual style.
"They refused to participate," 117 said. "I am extremely sad and disappointed with Jagex and am so very sorry for this long journey, I'm not able to present this project to you. 117's mod doesn't seem to go against Jagex's guidelines for third-party clients, but the Runescape developer has said it will be amending the guidelines this week to include references to projects that impact how the game appears.
Original Runelite developer Adam1210 has shared his views on cheap RuneScape gold Reddit, saying that allowing Runelite HD to continue would provide a benefit to the future updates that are made by Jagex.
