The rule was amended in Madden 23 coins 2015 to generally "any contact with the helmet is considered a foul," it was flagged five to seven times a game in the preseason within the trenches, most often along the offensive line.
I recall receiving a phone message from my brother following their first game of preseason when numerous flags were raised against the player for breaking this rule. I was pretty angry. He was playing against a smaller defensive end and when he decides to punch his chest his hands naturally rise upwards and make contact with the helmet of the defender. This was not previously a problem and now it was. We all feared it would fundamentally alter offensive line play.
When the regular season started, these calls magically went away. I'm pretty sure Mitch was not cited for one of these buy mut 23 coins during the season. They weren't strictly enforced according to the rules book and any contact with the helmet wasn't considered an offense. A blow directly to the helmet could be legally enforced, and the game in the trenches didn't need the need to fundamentally change.
This is a long way of saying I don't think that the Madden NFL 23 continues to liberally enforce this new helmet rule throughout the season. Are they likely to make a mistake by ignoring it from time when, yes, they'll make mistakes, but the rule shouldn't substantially alter the game , if enforced in a proper manner.
