It's not uncommon for Diablo expansions to add new classes to the mix, so it will be interesting to see if Diablo 4 does so with its post-launch support Diablo 2 Resurrected Items. It's possible new character classes will be tied to expansions as they've been in the past, but there's also the possibility that they will be added as free updates, similar to how Blizzard releases new Overwatch heroes for free. Finer details like this won't come to light until we get closer to Diablo 4's release date, which is currently scheduled for some point in the first half of 2023.

While Fergusson's tweet was meant to calm the nerves of Diablo fans who are worried about Diablo 4 in the wake of the Diablo Immortal controversies, there are those who are skeptical. Many are worried that Diablo 4 will have pay to win elements like Diablo Immortal has, or will otherwise try to nickel and dime players with predatory monetization. Time will tell, but based on what's been shared so far, it seems Diablo 4 may avoid making the same mistakes as Diablo Immortal.

The Xbox and Bethesda Games showcase leveraged the full power of Xbox’s growth to its advantage, showcasing a ton of Xbox Games Studio titles, a handful of Bethesda titles, and even showcased some Activision Blizzard titles—as Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard acquisition is underway. No one really expected Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4 to be there, but they were in a big way.

As confirmed at the showcase, Overwatch 2 is releasing as a free-to-play title later this fall, and Diablo 4 is releasing sometime next year d2r items for sale. Each game also showed off a new character, with that being the new Necromancer class for Diablo 4. With all five launch classes for Diablo 4 confirmed, however, there is a notable archetype missing.
