I was required to complete a novel that was set in England in OSRS gold the middle of the age (around 1100) over the summer. The characters had days of walking from one place to the next. The solitary forest was the most common way to travel, where bandits and outlaws were constantly in your path.
While the novel is not real, it seems to be a true representation of the areas that lie between cities. This feeling is not present in Runescape except for the Wilderness or the Kharidian Desert. Both of them are vast and could be risky, especially for an inexperienced traveler.
The first thing I would like to say is that the lodestone system needs to be removed. It kills any feeling of adventure even for new players who only need to walk to a specific location once. Secondly the size of the clan camps must be reduced by at least a quarter. It removed a significant (in size) forest and caused the Falador-Rimmington-Port Sarim area to become unrealistically joined together.
In the end, I believe there are additional risks to the "wilderness" between towns. This could include outlaws attacking you or natural events. Jagex tried to buy RS gold make this happen by adding level 5 highwaymen into the game however they're not necessary for anyone over level 10, and aren't an issue for anyone who is who is smart enough to run.
