To craft astral Runes requires Runecrafting level 40, pure essence as well as accessibility to Lunar Altar gained after completing your Lunar Diplomacy adventure (required levels of skill RuneScape Gold: 61 Crafting, 40 Defence, 49 Firemaking, 65 Magic, 60 Mining, 55 woodcutting).
This is not the most efficient approach, but it works for me. My statistics are: 99 Attack/97 Strength/95 Defence/98 HP/80 Prayer/90 Magic/80 Ranged, and if you've got the same stats , it's simple. (But I'm still a novice :P, if your stats are similar to mine there are far better Barrow strategies.
Wait, maging in melee gear? Wouldn't it be just a be a splash. Also, are there any quests I need to do other then preist in peril (I have to complete that one quickly!) The accuracy of Slayer dart is not affected by the magic bonus. It just impacts the force you strike with the dart, therefore it's more beneficial to use melee armour to gain more defensive bonuses.
The accuracy of Slayer Darts is influenced by your mage bonus (go to kill metal drags using the rune and then compare it to Mystic You'll see a huge distinction). Damage, however, is not. You will hit the same in mystic, as you would in a rune. If you're looking at the black sally, it's only worth it if have a very high defense level or are using blitz/barrage as well to sidestep. Sally is a little more reliable than slayer and is believed to hit more often at 70 mage than slayer dart does when you're at 70 Mage. Unless you have 85+ def or the magic level is 82+, you may as well choose slayer.
78-80 Attack shouldn't take much time, possibly just a couple of days, but possibly an entire week if your progress is slow. I personally prefer to train using Green Drags, or Blue Drags in Taverly Dungeon if you uncomfortable with the wild OSRS Accounts. It's an extremely slow experience. However, it's an acceptable cash-wise.
