2020 will end. Animal Crossing: New Horizons will close at 5 a.m. on December 31st. The Resident Services Department will be closed, so Isabelle and Tom Nook can set up countdown events on the square, including large watches, prizes, gifts, etc.
First, through Isabel's bulletin board on December 27th to remind players of the countdown event. Then in the daily announcement on New Year's Eve, Isabel can be seen wearing a Happy New Year top hat and tuxedo, and she will talk about the holidays. After the players put on the party costumes, they can go directly to the square to participate in the New Year's Eve celebration, which will last all day.
Starting on December 27th, New Horizons players can purchase four special New Year’s Eve items in their NookPhone or the Nook Shopping app in the resident kiosk. When the player presses A, they can hold the sparkling cider and use it to toast. Or, the cider can be displayed for decoration or put down for others to take. The other three types of food-New Year's noodles, Berliners, and twelve grape vegetables-are time-limited, non-interactive offers and can be displayed or gifted like other small furniture. These items cannot be classified and can only be purchased through Nook Shopping before December 31.
On New Year's Eve, players can purchase light sticks and New Year hats or New Year silk hats from Isabelle and Tom Nook respectively. The light stick is only yellow, and the Animal Crossing New Horizons Bells holiday hat has eight colors (blue, green, light blue, orange, pink, purple, red and yellow). Note: On any given island, Tom Nook will only wear hats with four colors to choose from, so players may need to cooperate with friends to visit each other and collect the remaining hats.
Starting on New Year's Day, players can purchase seven additional items through Nook Shopping to celebrate the transition from 2020 to 2021, some of which are culturally connected:
2021 Celebratory Arch - This balloon arch bears the Gregorian calendar's number for the new year and gives luck to anyone who walks through it carrying their hopes and dreams in their heart
Kadomatsu - A bamboo signpost to welcome Toshigami-sama, a god of the new year, into each house to bless it
Kagamimochi - "Mirror mochi" is an offering to Toshigami-sama that is broken open and eaten on Jan. 11 to share the spirit within for good health
New Year’s Shimekazari - These rope decorations purify the home and welcome Toshigami-sama
Olivier Salad - A staple of Russian New Year's traditions created by Lucien Olivier at the end of the 19th century; there is no official recipe
Yut Nori - This traditional Korean board game is played with wooden sticks instead of dice
Zodiac Ox Figurine - This decoration brings good fortune for the Year of the Ox
