Hakkar would toss Corrupted Blood on gamers and it might damage them for about 10 minutes. Players would spread the impact to others if they got too near to people infected. After the 10 seconds were completed, or players completed the boss battle, the harmful impact was supposed to end. Only it didn't.

A programming oversight allowed the debuff to spread beyond the website of this Hakkar boss struggle and to the world at large. Hunter characters may summon and discount pets to fight at their side at will. Once ignored, all the consequences on the pets have been paused until it is known as back out again. In consequence, the critters would contract Corrupted Blood during the boss fight, vanish and then display the symptoms elsewhere in the world map when they were again summoned. There it might spread to other pets and players that came in contact with them.

Cities such as the dwarven city Ironforge and cheap classic wow gold orc town Orgrimmar were overrun within hours. Non-playable personalities, who couldn't die as a result of special coding, could also catch the impact, meaning any player who passed by them could get Corrupted Blood.
